It gives me great pleasure and an honor to be able to present a his interview with one of the most representative Venezuelan musicians moved from the eighties and of course one of the most appreciated and loved in the national rock scene since he was a participant in groups of great quality as Iceberg, PP'S and Aditus, in addition to being widely recognized for his broadcasting career and music producer. Needless to say that Pedro Castillo thanked for their cooperation who besides his merits as a musician is also a great person. Information:
1 - This Saturday March 15 the group will be performing RC2 (Felix Duque, former lead singer of RADIO CLIP) at the Hard Rock Caffe following the submission of March 14 where they will be opening stage to nothing more and nothing less than "Dream Theater" in the Forum of Valencia.
2 - Another good band from the music scene of the 90 `s back for one day (March 29, 2008) to appear at the Moulin Rouge and is nothing more and nothing less than the band CLOWNS who were super successful with the songs "Crazy For You," "Alone You and I" and "Weekend."
Greetings and happy holy days. Jhony
Interview with Pedro Castillo:
"I have heard that you were born in Cuba, at what age come Venezuela and as was the process of adaptation?
was born in Cuba February 14, 1959, my parents lived in Venezuela and decided long before I was born there so that my mother was not only the days after my birth. In short ... I am Venezuelan.
"How comes your passion for music? Comes, perhaps, this talented family?
imagine my father's taste in music influenced that. I was always surrounded by his record collection and an adult, I could do mine ..
"How is your family having a hairy rocker in the house? You relied on your own taste or were, like many, called a "black sheep"?
At first it was a little weird for them, but courts may not be used ... as traumatic as it was while I was in college doing my career and even had the audacity to do a postgraduate course after graduation time. My parents always let me decide which way I wanted to give my life.
"It was very difficult for you to share a college career with your music career? No thought at some point in postponing one of the two the benefit of the other?
I tried to take that double life as far as I could until I decided in 1987 by music Full time ... .. I was left alone with teaching piece for a few years since I took off a long time and is something I like.
-making music professionally?
Never ... .. what little I know I've had to learn alone and need to communicate with other musicians across the musical notation and to enrich my vocabulary a little musical harmonic level.
"Your beginnings in groups before Floe as they were?
talked about 1977 .... I played in a group that called dihedral, and rehearsed in Macaracuay. They also rehearsed a band called MAGIC ... .... We became friends, and at some point in the two groups were not members (and they were going to study abroad), we decided to merge the remainder of both groups and then came the iceberg.
-How do you feel to know that, after a little over thirty years, the work of Iceberg and special "Atabal Yemal" is recognized internationally as one of the best in "symphonic and progressive rock?
is the best reward we could receive at that time in which for us was music all around which our lives revolved.
follow-Today part of the iceberg. Been made after the meeting dates for 1998? Make one think in Venezuela at some point?
We have participated in different festivals in BAJA CALIFORNIA, NORTH CAROLINA and RIO DE JANEIRO. We also play in Macau, a Brazilian city near Rio. In Caracas we did a show to present the album THE AGONY AND THE ECSTASY. While we live we do nothing, however, we have been making music and hope for a new opportunity to meet and play shows ..
"That's your opinion deserved the Iceberg style changes after your departure, first to" new wave "and then the" pop "?
The changes were consistent with what was happening with music at munidal, in fact I left aditus icebergs to do basically the same.
"In the 80's to enter one of the most beloved pop group and recognized in Venezuela, the group" Aditus. " How to change your lifestyle to get a well known public figure?
With aditus learned many things that had not yet developed with icebergs and it was a very new band. When I enter aditus they already had experience in the tables and two disks. The group was inactive because two of its members were outside the country and when Sandro (bass) back from England and Alvaro Falcon decides to stay in the United States, they decide to resume activities and start looking for a guitarist to sing and then I was out of icebergs and remember that the next day out of icebergs George and I met that night and had work at aditus. I remember that day we did two tracks (MR MUSIC AND MASTER). With aditus was working as a team and the deal was on another level, more adult. We listened to each other in trials while the icebergs left that had not reached maturity as a band was too young. Over time we have been building a sound and a way of making music, and above all an attitude and a life project which in my case lasted 15 years ..
-What do you think was the recipe for "Aditus" was so popular?
communication with our audience, that was for my first concern. The valuation of our audience, which for us has always been the main asset of the band.
"How did you feel to know that the group had jurisdiction to" Aditus "was just a group to which you belong (Iceberg)?
was curious since I saw that I helped develop the group to form another perspective. We did shows together, and in some aditus open to other FLOES FLOES and opened to aditus. Unfortunately the changes were eroding FLOES until deactivated for a while had the philosophy that aditus try where possible to maintain their training because that is the basis of sound and communication with the public ..
-many discs recorded with Aditus?
nine or ten, not counting compilations have been several.
-how do you switch into two groups at the same time to enter "PPS"? PPS
comes as I am with icebergs. PEREZ PEDRO know through a friend and I like your proposal new wave. Then presented it to the people of icebergs and decided that FLOES would be the band that would make the music PEDRO PEREZ and thus forms the first PP's with members of icebergs as a band and the concerts we were dressed for the public of floes not found out we did NEW WAVE! When I get out of icebergs, my former teammates decide to leave as PP'S PEDRO PEREZ and I were left alone. I decide to continue the project in parallel with aditus and completed the band with my brother Victor on keyboards, IGNACIO ANGLE on drums and Carlos Esposito on bass.
-In "PPS" never thought of having you as a vocalist (though we know you did choirs) instead of being solely a guitarist?
The idea was always that PEDRO PEREZ was the main figure and always worked in this direction. For me, PP'S was a great school. We made hundreds of concerts and more crazy and unlikely places and we had a really nice time with the band.
-How did you feel the sad ending that was the party leader John Smith and of course the dissolution of "PPS" after three albums?
was a time when we feel depressed and decided that was the end. Disks are in memory of a wonderful time.
-In 1987 and you do a professional musician and composer, producer and broadcaster. What are your memories of having participated in the production or the creative process of a host of national rock bands of the 80's?
My best memory of that time was the only album production WAG group. I think they were ahead of their time and music that made me love it. Had wanted to play in a band like that and put my best to stay in production the highest level possible.
-Fonotalento was a company that provided much support to groups and artists that emerged recently in Venezuela and as I understand your forms part of it. Why it disappears?
BLANCO ALEJANDRO URIBE I think was the engine that began to shape a whole movement was certainly not over. For all began there. The reasons for the disappear FONOTALENTO know but imagine that, as in all businesses there are ups and downs and I assume they could not survive the bad times.
Aditus -After you start your career in 1998 as a soloist with a great success that always kept you in the media. What was the key to that success?
As a soloist I had to start virtually from scratch and that from that moment I just started to be responsible for my music Unlike when I was in Aditus, where we shared all the responsibilities. I also had to reach an audience who refused to accept that I was no longer in aditus. But once I decided to leave the group worked to develop proposals having as music and lyrics that were interesting for people who followed us in turn sought aditus and more of our music ... I call it Evolution.
"Similarly, and people recognize you by your songs, so does listening to a huge amount of advertising jingles (very sticky, by the way). When you realize you had the ability for such advertising?
Like everything in this business ... ... by chance. It all started with a casting that I attended and from that moment I began to record business, first as a singer, then as an announcer and later added the composer for advertising.
"Someone should be a speaker or was a personal decision of yours? Who gave you the first opportunity to do so formally?
remember JULIO CESAR VENEGAS recommended me to go to a casting with Chuchito Sanoja who was then one of the most sought after music producers in the middle and great musician and best friend still, he listened and encouraged me get the locution CERTIICADO to record with him and it did.
-What is your role as an electronic musician ...
Electronics is something I've always had about my career and the development that has taken and the application of music technology to a new world opened for me to express musically other things I knew inside and then comes " ASHWAVE. "
-Because you are now and what are your future projects?
Now I just finished the fourth solo album is called "I HAVE AN IDEA" and also icebergs finished an album called "selective memory" and after that we are starting another project with icebergs in late 2008 called "THE WHISPER AND THE BLADE."
"Thanks Peter for taking part in your valuable time for this interview. We hope many years have you joining us with your music and supporting national talent. A hug and much success ...
