Cava & Twitts: Tourism ... although we talk about more things

a couple of weeks ago we celebrated the second edition of 'Cava & Twitts' ( for those who do not know it, this is a monthly event in Barcelona where we want to bring both current users of Twitter and those who are not, what it is, what it does and who is using Twitter ... through a round table where we discussed a particular issue and its impact on technologies followed by a bit ... networking with a glass of champagne courtesy of Cavas Castellroig ) ... this time dedicated to Tourism 2.0.




When asked Do you think that new technologies and new media (Internet, blogs, Twitter and social networks) are affecting the tourism sector and are leading to disintermediation in it? responded to 4 experts who are invited to the roundtable:

As in the first edition ... Over 100 people attended the event.

One of the topics that generated interventions was discussion on whether the company is on Twitter and in general, in a network, you must do as " brand or as a person who conveys the brand values \u200b\u200b ( Issac Gonzalez phrase , summarizing the question posed by Alberto Lacasa ). Many questions arise about this issue and I think there is no right answer.

I sincerely believe that the communities are people, not companies, and therefore, relationships can only be established between people. I also find difficult to think of large companies that are on Twitter and your account is identifiable with a particular person, not talking I guess, today, with Telefonica Twitter account as if conversing with someone.

To date we have conducted interviews with Twitter accounts of companies and public institutions ... and today we will devote this space to interview an NGO: Greenpeace.

Q. - How long have you are on Twitter? Do you remember why you chose to enter?

Q. - What do you hope to accomplish with your presence on Twitter, in particular, and social media in general?
R. - hope to establish a closer relationship with our partners, internet and mobile activists and new audiences that we want to reach with our message. This communication has the dual function of giving to these audiences the opportunity to participate more actively in our campaigns and the ability to make us more effective campaigns based on the participation of more people in them.


P. - There are two models clearly opposed the use of Twitter: use it as a disclosure or use it as a conversation. What is your strategy?
R. - In principle we are using it as a news item published, but also read all the responses we received from those who follow us, whether publicly or privately and answer many of your requirements. This feedback, as explained above, it is taken into account when planning and evaluating our campaigns.


Q. - What will be your strategy for the dissemination and communication of your Twitter account?
R. - Let's go gradually spreading it through our web site and through our list of cyber (800,000 people) who regularly receive our email alerts.

But I hope they are very clear on this step ... it seems increasingly clear that without a sustainable revenue model, Twitter will not stand for long on the basis of the expectation of future business.

Although I still would not rule out the operation with Facebook (and do not say because I have a crystal ball or they have very well informed sources.) I think Facebook needs to give a boost to its services, has established a model community and grows as users, but think hat would happen if q nanoblogging system like Twitter end up in another great community ... perhaps this is the real reason of the operation, do not you apreço?
