Who does not remember the time when the walls of our capital (and some other cities) are becoming branded graphite with a heart and the initials SM?, And especially the first tapes that circulated from hand to hand by our high schools or colleges? No doubt this character has won a place of honor in the national rock scene, and above all still be in the fray with the Pixel group. EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW WITH FELIX DUKE (former lead singer RADIO CLIP)

Our country has witnessed the birth of great rock groups and pop rock that have demonstrated a huge export quality, however, many have gone unnoticed by the or most forgotten over time. In this, many speculate that is because ours is a Caribbean country most of whose tastes lean toward salsa, merengue, etc, but in my opinion is simply due to the Venezuelan record labels and radio stations in the country take risks (or risked) in designing a national artist to 100% of its capacity to promote, if only timidly to see what it is. One of the many groups that fought in our country by being known and achieved an important place were the guys who managed to Clip Radio edit three long-term and participate in a compilation of bands. Unfortunately in our country the record companies refuse to reissue the work of these groups and for this reason, many succumb to oblivion. In order to dust off memories that we left this band and clarify issues that affected their break now present an exclusive interview with Felix "El Gato" Duque who served as lead singer of the group that left us a musical legacy that is sure to be recognized over time and generations. I hope you enjoy this interview: Jhony

Pd. At the end of this post you can hear their songs again.

Interview Felix Duque

"You discover your passion for singing?
Historically, I think since I was born, when the doctor gives me a spanking at the time of delivery, and it was to be my desire to sing.

And your taste for the Rock?
a child, in my house, listening to great music from the Beatles, to classical music and film soundtracks, to the trio Los Panchos. But it is at school with classmates when I start to get interested more by the rock. As curiosity I tell you that, Juan Carlos Perez Soto, the duo Fernando and Juan Carlos, studied at my school. He always brought his guitar and sang many times together on the playground songs by Queen and the Beatles.

-an idol that you served as a model in the vocal area?
Many singers have been my models, and even discover new singers who are influencing. It is difficult to have one because I listen to lots of music and style varied, but if you want to make a short list:
Freddie Mercury, David Sylvian, Peter Gabriel, Paul McCartney, Jeff Buckley, Perry Blake, Steve Hogarth (Marillion) Matt Elliott, Chris Cornell, Michael Sadler (Saga's voice), Chet Baker, Duncan Sheik, Bjork, Brett Anderson, Michael Franks, Anthony and the Johnsons, Tori Amos, Matthew Bellamy (Muse Voice), KD Lang, Thom Yorke (Radiohead), Jay-Jay Johanson, Simon & Garfunkel, Tony Bennett, Tom Waits ... I do not remember more, but the list will grow !!!!!!

-groups participate in it before the High Frequency?
I started with a symphonic rock band named Ibis, with some friends and my cousin Jose Roman Duque, with whom I have now an electronic music project called Roman (us). After that, I sang in several versions bands, singing in bars. Then I sang a humorous group was called the Alpargata Cantorum and after high frequency.

-How was your joining the band "High Frequency"?
High Frequency Before doing theater too. Participated in a musical called "1984", where I met Roberto Fuentes, who was the singer of High Frequency. Roberto gave singing lessons at home, where I began to attend. Over time, I was invited to sing at La Alpargata Cantorum, a group of which he was the director, and then he decided to leave High Frequency to devote himself to the espadrille and he leaves his post in the band.

-many recordings made?
High Frequency had already recorded an album was called "Crossing the line." I just recorded the album "The Answer" two themes: "You rule" and "Under Pressure"

-Why High Frequency and decide to abandon part of Radio Clip? Was influenced by the fact that Radio Clip record an LP after "The Answer"?
High frequency Things eventually began to go wrong. Few concerts and sometimes had to be suspended for lack of audience. We ended up being the band of Trino Mora, and half of his show, we played some High Frequency songs. Trino helped us a lot and did some concerts with him.
then, I had become quite friendly with the guys at Radio Clip disk and they Response (Radio Clip) started having problems with their singer. I was invited to sing in the band and there was a moment where I was singing with both bands until he decided to separate high frequency and be only Trino Mora Banda and stay in Radio Clip.

"That difference in style between the two bands did you notice?
Well, musically, High Frequency Radio was more heavy and was more pop clip. A level of experience, was a high frequency great school, because with them the first time I sang in stadiums and large theaters such as the Aula Magna UCV In addition to sharing that experience with great musicians like Jesus "Moti" Jimenez on bass, Gian Visconti in guitar, Tedesco Francisco "Chico" on drums and there were two more guitarists, Cecilio Perozzi and Julio "El Chino" Hung. Clip Radio
was what came closest to what I wanted to do musically to that time. And they had the very pleasant experience to do big tours, and to market outside of Venezuela.

-Con Clip Radio song which you identify more?
The second album "Where the wind blows," is a song that was all mine (music and lyrics) is called "Bitter" I think it was with the one I identified. There was another song called "Old Photos" that I liked a lot.

-LP was your favorite?
The last thing I recorded with them, "Fire in the flow." I really gave all of me in that job. If you have the opportunity to listen again will you have so much feeling. Especially the song "Fire in the flow."

"As was the feeling among group members?
We were always very close, with differences between musical tastes and other things, but always buddies. And yet it still is.

-Clip Radio with each new album it was clear that his style was becoming harder and harder. This impacted on your way out of the group?
That was one of many reasons. But the heaviest weight was that at that time, I was the only one in the band who lived for music and theater. The kids did not like much that I sing in a cover band or theater to do what the image and such. I did impossible because they never coincide my theater activities and cover band with Radio Clip, but one day went. Agreed on a journey to a theater festival in Puerto Rico and a concert by Radio Clip in Merida, and there was no way to change the dates. So I went to Puerto Rico and they in Merida with another singer, returning from my trip I was told that as a Radio Clip was not my priority, could not continue in the band. And goodbye.

"Now the question of a thousand loaches: Clip Radio Many fans were shocked to see you singing in a genre totally antagonistic (vallenato) to what you did in the past and many perhaps for lack of maturity (for we were very young) not forgave this choice. Today, adult-minded and understand how negative many is sticking to only one style of music and not hear anything else out there, but I ask: Why did you? And above all, why participate in a project that highlights your powerful voice not to be overshadowed by singing all the members of this group while a choir?
The truth was somewhat prophetic, when I recorded the last album with Radio Clip (Fire in the stream), I was so satisfied with the recording, I told my boys in the band: "If with this disc okay, I sing vallenato, salsa and merengue ... And again, the label that had not supported us all and that album went almost unnoticed. I'm tired of the rock in Venezuela was only for a minority, that pay is not important and did not work economically. Clip Radio when I leave, I started looking for other options. I sang in dance bands as "Tartar" was in the theater group (called Caravan) and the cover band.
My idea was to make a little money for me some good models and see what I could do with them. In my theater group had a mate who said he was looking for Ezequiel Serrano voices to a project Colombian music and needed someone with my look. She had already spoken to Ezekiel me and made me an interview. I saw on that project a bridge to make contacts and money and then do my thing and not think twice.
The experience was incredible. Traveled throughout Colombia where we were very famous, so much that we trade for a drink and we recorded a tribute to great stars of Colombian music and also was a TV special (that album never came out in Venezuela). I came to U.S. (I sang in Corpus Christi, Texas and Miami) the turns than I gave to all of Venezuela.
shared the stage with great musicians the same Ezequiel Serrano, Rodolfo Reyes, Pablo Santaella, Roberto Giron, Gilberto Bermúdez and exceptional Colombian musicians.

-you do it again?
I do not think I will not say that "I will not drink this water," but when I decide to leave Barranco Mix, after 5 years with them, I thought it was time to return to work on my songs and to find my own style. Here in Spain I had the opportunity to perform in dance bands and they all said no. Now I am very happy with my two musical projects, RC2 and Roman (us).
-

participate in that project to end This facet of your career?
After Barranco Mix, recorded some demos with whom I traveled to the U.S. to show them to several record labels and music producers. I was in New York, Boston and Miami. Although two producers were interested, I never got to anything concrete.
Upon my return to Venezuela, decided to leave a parked my project time and continue my studies of social communication in the UCV Then a friend of mine who is called Juan Francisco (www.myspace.com / juanfranciscomusic), invited me to participate with my models in a compilation album he is producing with other singers who had no record. This disc is called "The Solar strangers "had a little success and Frank Quintero invited us to sing at a concert he did in the room CorpBanca in Castellana. You can hear some of this project on this page: www.myspace.com / elsolar
Long before all that, Arturo Torres (Radio Clip bassist) told me he wanted to do a "revival" with the band and that if wanted to participate, he said yes and we started rehearsals.
We did a few gigs and then decided it was better to do something else and was born RC2.

"Because I choose to go to Venezuela?
Andrea, my wife gave him a scholarship for a postgraduate degree in Spain. And being here, I found work and saw that I opened new horizons in music, nourishing a lot when I go to concerts, shows, and listening to great music that, unfortunately, in Venezuela, had not had the opportunity to listen or watch live . Both
(Andrea and I) have grown a lot. All this made us to stay permanently.

"As does your concern for the Symphonic and Progressive Rock? You imagined in your times of playing this style rocker?
As I told you at the beginning of this interview, the first band that I was symphonic and progressive rock. Many of my favorite bands at that time were of symphonic rock (Marillion, Genesis, Yes, Emerson, Lake and Palmer, Pink Floyd). When we started working on RC2, it was like a kind of nostalgia for my youth and I loved the idea.

-Clip Radio 2 RC2 is he?
Yes, the idea was that as we change completely musical style, and no one could call the same. And we intend to seek a name that meant nothing in any language. And so the name stuck.

-Who make RC2?
Rafael Paz on keyboards, Eduardo Benatar on drums, Peter Misle on bass, Maurice Barroeta on guitar and me on vocals.

"As has been our capacity for the group?
has been incredible, it's amazing how new technologies like the Internet, you can approach your fans despite the distances. We have received very good reviews from all over the world. Here in Spain, have done several shows and has done very well.

- have recorded many albums?
We are currently in the masterizaje of our second album.
can hear excerpts of this work on our website of www.myspace.com/rc2prog

-participate in other projects now?
RC2 Besides, I have a more electronic project, called Roman (us) and I did with my cousin (with whom I made my first rock band) that lives in the U.S.. We did an album online and we have done very well, we're playing on the radio here in Spain and in February we have a small tour of the northern U.S..
can listen to these websites: www.myspace.com / romanusmusic And www.virb.com / romanus

"That positive and negative differences are between the eighties and the current scene? Something strange about that?
the 80's for me were very important, because it was a time of learning and to implement that learning. Sometimes I feel like I spend the entire decade of the mind as when they move quickly to find a video scene, and makes me quite nostalgic. It's great to remember a good past and know that what we have is the present and an unknown future, it unfolds between feelings and circumstances experienced to help you move forward.
I hate to think that "all previous times were better, I think each has the time he lives and that their experience is always positive.

"There's a remote chance that in the future come together to make at least a concert with songs from Radio Clip? I think that very soon launch a campaign to ask for at least temporary return of those great bands.
do not know, I see very difficult because we all live outside the country ... Imagine the mess, Arturo, Diego, Kako Y Jaime live in Florida and I in Barcelona, \u200b\u200bSpain ... Nothing else would come in very expensive tickets. But like I said before, we remain good friends and it would be amazing to play those themes back together again.

- A message for your fans and visitors to the blog?
"Let the stars guide you to a new dawn" ... jajajajajajajaja, just kidding ...
just follow their dreams and make them reality ...

Thank -Felix, was an honor to be able to realize yourself this interview especially for being alongside the likes of Alexis Peña and Pedro Castillo one of the finest voices this country has seen. Many successes and we are in order here.
Thanks to you, and thanks to all who visit your blog. People like you make you will continue "throwing balls" to music.
A hug.
